December Exhibition: Deb Morrison
Deb Morrison is a painter and textile artist, who lives and works in Lawson- surrounded by National Park. This precious wilderness is the traditional land of the Gandangarra and Dharug peoples. In her work she tries to depict the emotional and spiritual connection that she also feels with this ancient land.
Deb is essentially a self -taught Artist- having attended many workshops and classes for various artforms and techniques over her life. She has exhibited textile work with various groups over the years but attending two online painting courses in 2014 led to more focus on painting. Painting is her current creative focus. She paints most days in her home “sunroom” studio. She has had 5 local exhibitions since 2018. She was chosen to exhibit in “Festival of Natives” at” Gang Gang “gallery and received an honourable mention.
Her work is a reaction/reflection for how being out in the forest wakes up the senses. She tries to depict the childlike curiosity and awe she feels when exploring our natural world.
Walking in the bush often and taking hundreds of photographs she returns home to plan, sketch and paint what she feels she has seen. Her work is not meant to be an accurate representation of the landscape but is rather an emotional response to it.
She mostly paints in acrylics/ inks/ mixed media. Oil painting is a recent adventure-always learning and pushing herself forwards and enjoying the challenge of finding new ways to depict joy.
