June Exhibition: Chloe Grabham

found beauty

Chloe Grabham, June 2022

Artist Statement:

I want ‘found beauty’ to invoke a feeling of admiration and awe for the natural landscape that we sometimes take for granted. Through my digital photography, I captured these moments by pure chance. These moments were captured whilst out bushwalking and exploring local trails in the Blue Mountains, with no plan or agenda, just time and hope.

Being in lockdown throughout 2021 meant I was making the most of my local area. It gave me time to find new places to explore nearby and to really appreciate the flora and fauna that shapes it.

I hope this series inspires others to slow down, look at their natural surroundings, especially at different times of the day and throughout the seasons. To take a moment to observe the different shades of colour, shadows of the sun and moon and the smells and textures that make beauty found in the most unexpected of places.

Exhibition description:

found beauty is an exploration of fleeting moments of nature captured in Dharug and Gundungurra country. From the crimson waratahs growing wildly in the mist, the overflowing of waterfalls after the torrential rain, or the moon rising against a lilac sunset sky- these visual experiences are frozen in time to forever be admired.

The works feature across a span of seasons and landscapes throughout the Blue Mountains, showcasing different climates, textures and moods. Many of the shots were captured during lockdown, where time was spent on exploring and discovering new spaces in my own backyard..

The series is about capturing unexpected moments of beauty in nature when you least expect to find them, and having them as a visual reminder of the undiscovered beauty that is still yet to be found.
